Problem:
The new walkways around Arrowhead are part of the million
dollar renovation taking place at the stadium. Several new
beams were constructed to support these extended walkways.
After the steel for the beams had been assembled concrete
was poured into the forms prior to an inspector approving
the construction. The inspector required an accurate, non-invasive
method of confirming the reinforcing steel and stirrups were
properly constructed.
Solution:
The on-site structural engineers contacted Construction Solutions
to have someone "X-Ray" the beams in question. GPR
equipment was brought on-site to evaluate the beams. Seen
above is one of the beams in question. The rebar and stirrups
were laid out with temporary marking and results were noted
by the engineers and inspector. Upon completion of the GPR
scans on all related beams it was confirmed that the beams
were properly constructed, saving the contractor thousands
of dollars from exposing the steel and repairing the beams.
