| Large Core Drill and Wire Saw Project for BNFL and Consumers Energy
BNFL and Consumers Energy requested the assistance of Construction Solutions for a metal cutting wire saw project that required 3D CAD modeling, consulting engineering and developing scope of work documentation.
Construction Solutions developed the scope of work and methods statements for the cutting and removal of the activated and reactor located at Charlevoix Michigan. Construction Solutions developed a 3D CAD model of the reactor core and surrounding structures, calculated floor loadings, and verified egress-opening sizes. This was done in order to determine the maximum crane size and lifting capacity of the said crane for removal of cut sections of the reactor core containment structure. A combination of diamond core drilling and diamond wire sawing were recommended to meet the job budget, timing needs, and environmental requirements. Construction Solutions designed piece size and removal sequence to maximize space utilization of the waste receptacles while staying within the safe lifting limits of the largest crane that could access the job site.
Construction Solutions developed a PowerPoint presentation that included the 3D CAD images and showed each step of the process. The presentation was used to illustrate the operation to the owner. It will also be used as a training tool for the various trades working on this phase of the project. Click here to view images from that presentation.
