Harrah's Casino GPR Project
Construction Solutions provided Harrah's Casino with onsite scanning of concrete structures. This made it possible to locate embedded structures and services for drilling clearance. The remodeling of the Kansas City Harrah's River Boat Casino required several penetrations through prestressed concrete floors. In order to maintain structural integrity, all electrical and plumbing penetrations had to be done in such a way to avoid cutting the prestress cables, so the exact cable location needed to be determined. Typically the floor would have been x-rayed requiring access to both sides of the concrete structure. Then the concrete structure would be examined and the floors under examination would need to be either partially or totally evacuated.
Utilizing new Ground Penetrating Radar equipment, Construction Solutions was able to locate the cables in real time without access to both sides of the structure. Also, no evacuation was necessary. Ground Penetrating Radar has been used for several years for mineralogical, oil, and archeological exploration; however, until recent developments in computer signal analysis and antenna capabilities, this technology could not be used for buried structures in concrete. Construction Solutions is excited to provide this service. |
