MCI Garage Case Study - Post-Tension Cable
Upgrading the Kansas City International Airport parking garage facilities to
incorporate new payment gates and automatic capacity counting system
required extensive conduit installation. Several core drilled penetrations
through the post -tensioned garage deck were required for these upgrades.
Project requirements stipulated that existing services could not be
disrupted and that post- tension cables and rebar could not be compromised
or cut by the core drilling operations.
Construction Solutions was contracted to perform Ground Penetrating Radar
analysis of the garage deck in order to locate all conduit, rebar and
post-tension cables.
Because drilling was concentrated at the parking garage entrances and exits
which had to remain open and functional, all GPR scanning was performed from
the underside of the garage deck noting structure locations and depths
directly onto the deck underside surface. Scan documentation consisted of
digital photographs of each core drill location accompanied with a
dimensioned drawing of each location noting all in slab structures. |
